Limerick bottled water goes fully green

A WELL-known Limerick bottled water brand is to go fully green following the signing of an agreement to fund renewable energy.

Ballygowan Natural Mineral Water, owned by Britvic Ireland, is produced in Newcastle West and will now be produced by fully renewable energy following the signing of a new €2.5 million Customer Corporate Power Agreement (CCPA) between Britvic and Flogas Enterprise.

The CCPA will allow Britvic Ireland to fund energy generation at Sonnagh Old Wind Farm in Galway, which will produce enough electricity to power the Newcastle West facility annually, as well as 75 per cent of the company’s total energy requirements.

The CPPA builds on the achievement of 72 per cent reduction in direct emissions for Britvic Ireland and is reflective of an ever-increasing focus on sustainability at Britvic Ireland across operations and at executive level.

Sian Young, Director of Sustainable Business at Britvic Ireland, said: “Ballygowan has a long history of harnessing the best of Ireland’s natural resources to deliver sustainable, locally produced, Irish natural mineral water.”
