dance A Call To You is an antidote to the imagery of war inspired by Ukrainian folk-dance traditions

Catherine Young Dance has been making and touring work nationally and internationally since 2014. The company creates powerful, primal work that shows all shades of the human condition – its grit, edge, truth, honesty, and beauty.
Originally created at Backstage Theatre for the Dublin Dance Festival 2022, A Call To You is a new work by Catherine Young playing at Lime Tree Theatre this Thursday May 11.
Emerging from the urgency of the incomprehensible times we are living in, A Call To You is a call to come together, to explore the fragility and friction of community.
The performance is accompanied by live music directed by Young’s long-time collaborator Martin Schärer, and features Seanán Brennan (guitar/mandola) and Brian Hogan (bass) from folk group Kíla, as well as Ilse De Ziah (cello) and Jess Kavanagh (voice).
A Call To You is inspired by Ukrainian folk-dance traditions, and is a passionate celebration of life, togetherness and dance. It offers an antidote to the imagery of war and the endless rhetoric of politics. As words fail, the body now speaks – untamed and unapologetic.
A cast of outstanding international performers take the stage for the April and May tour; Adrien Delépine, Axel Hampusson, Anna Kaszuba, Valentin Lemaitre, Orla Mc Carthy, Simone O’Toole, Carmen Palacios Sáenz, and Róisín Whelan.
Catherine is currently dancer-in-residence at Backstage Theatre, Longford, and dancer in residence for Kerry County Council. She is also co-curator of the What Next Festival at Dance Limerick.
