Limerick champion tree challenge to mark Biodiversity Week

Adare Manor is home to a wide variety of native and foreign tree species

LIMERICK people have been set the challenge of finding the biggest tree in the county as part of the programme to mark Biodiversity Week which runs until Sunday, May 28.

The Limerick branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust (IWT) is holding its Champion Tree Challenge to locate the biggest trees in the city and  county.

As part of the campaign, they are calling on the people of Limerick to measure the width of the trunk of a tree that they think is the largest, try to identify the species of the tree, and send the measurement and photos of the tree to the local branch of the IWT by email (limerickbranch@iwt.ie) or by posting it on their Facebook page.
