Sofas, rubbish, and duvets dumped in abandoned car in Limerick estate

Judge Patricia Harney

A JUDGE heard that household rubbish, broken furniture, and damaged old duvets are among the refuse found by an inspector outside a house in a Limerick council estate.

Litter Warden Eamon Dalton told Kilmallock District Court that building rubble and other items were also found, while some of the rubbish was being stored in an abandoned car when he first inspected the property in August of last year.

The case concerned rubbish alleged to be dumped outside the home of Helen Quish, of St Oliver Plunkett Terrace, Ballylanders.

Ms Quish was not in court when the matter came before Judge Patricia Harney in Kilmallock.

Solicitor for the local authority, Will Leahy, suggested to the Judge that the matter be put back so that he could write to Ms Quish.

However Judge Harney said she was concerned that she would “like to move this on. This is very hot weather and this woman has neighbours.”

The judge asked Mr Dalton if he had made further inspections and whether the situation had improved. He replied he had “inspected it yesterday and it hadn’t got any better”.

Judge Harney said she did not want to try the case in the absence of Ms Quish, “but this has been going on for a long period. She is not in court and no one has been instructed on her behalf.”

The Judge adjourned the case until July 17, while Mr Leahy said he would write to Ms Quish to inform her.
