A MAN has been arrested in connection with a number of fires that occurred in Limerick City in the early hours of Saturday morning (June 1).

Gardaí in Limerick confirmed that the man, described as being in his 20s, has been arrested and charged “in connection with suspected criminal damage” following investigations into a number of reported fires in one area of the city.

A blaze destroyed the Sailor’s Home on O’Curry Street in Limerick City on Saturday, while there were reports of a car fire on the nearby junction of Henry Street, Lower Hartstonge Street, and Mounth Kenneth Place.

According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, Gardaí received reports around 1am on Saturday of a fire in an “unoccupied building and a nearby vehicle fire in the O’Curry Street area of Limerick City”.

The fires were extinguished after efforts from the Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service, the Cappamore Fire Service, and Rathkeale Fire Service. No reports of injury have been made resulting from either fire.
