Limerick TD raises issue of water quality locally

Limerick Green Party TD Brian Leddin at Foynes Port.

A LIMERICK TD raised the issue of water quality in the area in the Dáil recently, following the publishing of a new environmental report.

Green Party TD Brian Leddin has his raised concerns over findings in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report, entitled ‘Water Quality in 2022’, which provides an update on the water quality of Ireland’s rivers, lakes, estuaries, coastal, and groundwaters.

“The findings of the report, while astounding, were not surprising,” the Deputy said.

“The report presents a crucial insight into the state of our watercourses and highlights significant and alarming environmental concerns that require immediate attention,” Leddin told the Dáil recently.

“We can no longer allow the State to actively encourage behaviour that leads to water pollution and the decline in quality of our water bodies.”

“We must pull the brakes now and reverse this worrying trend across our rivers, lakes, and marine environment,” he concluded.
