A LOCAL dispute been individuals led to a pipe bomb exploding at two homes in Limerick City this past weekend, Gardaí suspect.

While the explosion occurred in the traditional stronghold of the Dundon McCarthy crime group, the incident is not thought to have been linked to the notorious criminal gang.

Tensions in the area have been rising in recent months with at least one reported drive-by shooting.

In the latest incident in the city’s south side community, a man in his 30s was reported to have sustained injuries to his arm after a pipe bomb exploded at a house on Hyde Road, Gardaí said.

“Gardaí in Roxboro Road attended the scene of an explosion of a viable device that occurred at two residential properties on Hyde Road, Limerick City, at approximately 3.10am this morning Saturday, 15th July 2023,” said a Garda spokeswoman.
