Hurling fundraiser at Mungret

A LIMERICK Legends XV will bump into an All-Star selection in a novel hurling fundraiser for Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin in Mungret on Sunday at 1pm) 

Under the co-management of Richie Bennis, Eamon Cregan, and Joe Quaid, the Limerick side will include All-Stars Nickie Quaid and Dan Morrissey, along with Brian Murray, Leo O’Connor, Barry Foley, Séamus Hickey, Damien Reale, Tom Condon, Alan Browne, and the Tobin brothers of Seánie, Kevin, and Pat.

The All-Star team will be under the watchful eye of Conor O’Donovan, a two-time All-Ireland medal winner with Tipperary. His picks will include Tipperary pair Brendan Cummins and Eoin Kelly, Clare’s Niall Gilligan, and Fergal Moore of Galway.

Ahead of throw-in, on the occasion of their golden jubilee, former GAA President Seán Kelly will make a presentation to Limerick’s 1973 All-Ireland winning team.

Limerick’s collection of silverware from 2023 – League/Munster/All-Ireland – will be on display throughout the afternoon.

Gundy Humphreys will be the headline act at the post-match BBQ at the nearby Westward Ho, while later folk group The High Kings (and DJ Jaffa) will be centre-stage at a gala function at the Greenhills Hotel, Ennis Road.

Gala tickets are pitched at €50, while match admission is €10 (€5 for children).

The whole occasion is spearheaded by Alan Foley, whose own daughter Mollie, spent time at Crumlin Children’s Hospital as a baby.
