EVERYONE is invited to Griston Bog in Ballylanders to meet a very special resident of the bog this weekend.

Learn about the importance of the Barn Owl in Ireland’s habitats, as well as meeting Griston resident, Betsy the Barn Owl.

One of Limerick’s An Taisce’s Climate Ambassadors, Hannah Kindregan will also be there to give tours of the bog and explain how we all can help to protect environments like Griston Bog.

The Climate Ambassador programme is an An Taisce initiative with a network of 800 Ambassadors from around the country. The goal of the Programme is to raise awareness on the effects of climate change and promote sustainable actions.

Peatlands such as Griston Bog where this event takes place play a crucial role in mitigating against climate change in Ireland.

For this event, Hannah will facilitate a tour around the bog, advising how this habitat is vital for plants and animals such as the barn owl, and she will be offering suggestions on how we can all take action to address the challenges of climate change.

The event will also include a Barn Owl food chain orienteering exercise, citizen scientist pond sampling, meeting Betsy the Barn Owl and learning more about the importance of Barn Owls in Irish ecosystems and heritage.

The event takes place this Sunday (August 20) at 10am.
