Maguire the star attraction at Dromoland Castle

Dromoland Castle GC is host to the Women's Irish Open.

ACTION is under way since Thursday at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle, with the €400,000 tournament set to conclude on Sunday.

Headliner Leona Maguire, recently named on the European Solheim Cup team for September’s tussle with the United States in Spain, is joined by LET (Ladies European Tour) players Olivia Mehaffey and Victoria Craig and a seven-strong home amateur contingent comprising Aine Donegan (Woodstock GC, Ennis), Beth Coulter, Emma Fleming, Sara Byrne, Olivia Costello, Kate Lanigan and Aideen Walsh.

“I am very excited to play in this year’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle. It would obviously be very special,” Maguire said of the possibility of an Irish Open win.

“I’ll try not to put too much pressure on myself. I think it’s nice this year, especially in Dromoland.

A bumper crowd of 25,000 lined the fairways for Dromoland’s first staging of this tournament a year ago.
