ACTION is under way since Thursday at the KPMG Womenโs Irish Open at Dromoland Castle, with the โฌ400,000 tournament set to conclude on Sunday.
Headliner Leona Maguire, recently named on the European Solheim Cup team for Septemberโs tussle with the United States in Spain, is joined by LET (Ladies European Tour) players Olivia Mehaffey and Victoria Craig and a seven-strong home amateur contingent comprising Aine Donegan (Woodstock GC, Ennis), Beth Coulter, Emma Fleming, Sara Byrne, Olivia Costello, Kate Lanigan and Aideen Walsh.
โI am very excited to play in this yearโs Irish Open at Dromoland Castle. It would obviously be very special,โ Maguire said ofย the possibility of an Irish Open win.
โIโll try not to put too much pressure on myself. I think itโs nice this year, especially in Dromoland.
A bumper crowd of 25,000 lined the fairways for Dromolandโs first staging of this tournament a year ago.
Meanwhile, Castletroy GC will host its prestigious Menโs Senior Scratch Cup on Saturday.
