IN the wake of the increase in fuel prices due to the gradual return of full excise duty, a second such planned rise must be scrapped.

That’s the view of Rural Ireland Independent TD Richard O’Donoghue, who says that excise duty receipts last year in Limerick were in the region of €220m.

As the price of both petrol and diesel head towards €2 per litre, Deputy O’Donoghue said that the hike means an extra seven cent on every litre of petrol and five cent on diesel.

“It’s a double whammy in October with eight cent more per litre for petrol and six cent for diesel. We need action now to help struggling local families facing an ongoing cost of living crisis,” Deputy O’Donoghue said.
