FOLLOWING a 63 per cent increase in applications across 2023, the Government has announced an increased budget for the Childminding Development Grant (CMDG) from €250,000 to €340,000 annually.

The CMDG was introduced in 2004 to help childminders buy toys, childcare and safety equipment, and equipment to support inclusion and learning in their workplace.

It is open annually to registered and unregistered childminders, as well as those planning to open a childminding business.

The grant increase comes as this year, for the first time, the number of applications exceeded the funds available under the scheme.

More information on the CMDG is available on Gov.ie/childminding.
