A LOCAL councillor has called on the Council to undertake a deep clean of footpaths in a West Limerick town.

Fine Gael councillor Tom Ruddle has asked the Council to carry out a deep clean around Newcastle West town, particularly around South Quay and The Square targeting loose cobbles and moss growing.

Cllr Ruddle told the Council executive at this month’s Newcastle West District meeting that a number of constituents had been in contact with him about this issue.

In response, Senior Executive Engineer at Limerick City and County Council, John Sheehan, said that a deep clean and inspection of the loose cobbles will take place.
