Mixed bag of results for local teams in AIL Rugby

ON THE opening weekend of the Energia All-Ireland League, Shannon were impressive 27-22 Division 1A winners over UCD at Thomond Park.

Shannon led 7-3 at half time.

Jordan Prenderville, Will Riley (on his debut), Gus Harrington, and Jade Kriel were try scorers for The Parishmen. Michael Cooke kicked two conversions and John O’Sullivan added a penalty.

Elsewhere in the top-flight, Young Munster suffered an away 29-14 loss at Lansdowne.

Chris Moore and Ruadhan Quinn scored tries for The Cookies, both of which were converted by Cian Casey.

The big Munster derby in Division 1B saw Highfield defeat Garryowen 20-10 at Woodleigh Park.

Travis Comey and Timothy Duggan scored tries and Shane O’Riordan converted both and also added two penalties.

James Conroy replied with a try for Garryowen and Jack Oliver kicked a conversion and a penalty.

In Division 2A, Nenagh Ormond are the early pace setters after their 39-15 home win over UL Bohemian. Charlie O’Doherty, Kevin O’Flaherty, Dylan Murphy, Conor McMahon, and Patrick Scully scored tries for Nenagh.

McMahon kicked four conversions and two penalties. Jack O’Riordan and Paul Clancy were Bohs try scorers.

Trailing 10-3 at half time, Old Crescent staged a second half rally to defeat MU Barnhall 15-10 with tries from Evan Conlon, and Jed O’Dwyer. Ronan McKenna added a penalty and a conversion.

In Division 2C Bruff picked up maximum points from their visit to Clonmel where they emerged winners 36-22. Andrew O’Byrne, Tom O’Dwyer, Tom Quigley and Ciaran Cronin were Bruff’s try scorers. Ethan Anderson kicked three conversions and two penalties.

Meanwhile, UL Bohemian defeated Suttonians 38-3 to claim their third Bonus point victory in the Women’s All Ireland League. Abbie Salter-Townsend scored two tries for the Limerick side, and Stephanie Nunan, Chisom Ugwueru, Kate Flannery, Chloe Pearce were their other try scorers. Flannery splenidly added four conversions.
