Greyhound racing is a family affair for Newcastle West’s Cremin family

Newcastle West athlete and owner of Millrose Brandy, Ger Cremin, on the podium at the European Masters Athletics Championships in Italy.

A GREYHOUND purchased for a modest €600 as a family pastime during Covid-19 clocked-up his 100th outing at the weekend.

Owned by The Cremin Family of Newcastle West – parents Ger and Noreen, and children Lily-Ann (13) and Leroy (10) – ‘Millrose Brandy’ is much more than just a fast animal.

Ger, meanwhile, was recently on the winners’ podium at the European Masters’ Athletics Championships in Italy.

Noreen Cremin explained that as well as a racing dog, Millrose Brandy is as much a family pet.

“He has won 19 times for us and is the king of the kennel and will have a forever home in our sitting room.”

“He has brought so much joy to us as a family. He has been in the top three on over 60 occasions in his 100 races. We also have two other dogs running, Callura Flyer (Bobby) and Copperjack Boy (Sydney). And, as you can guess, we adore both as well.”

She added: “Lily Ann and Leroy are so dedicated and interested in them, out every morning before school and first thing again when they arrive home.”
