Limerick TD calls for noise mitigation measures along busy county roads

A LIMERICK TD has asked the Transport Minister to provide funding for noise mitigation measures for homes along major roads in the county.

Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea has asked Transport Minister Eamon Ryan to provide funding, on a pilot basis or otherwise, to Limerick City and County Council to implement noise mitigation action plans on major roads, such as the M20 motorway beside Glencairin in Dooradoyle.

Responding to Deputy O’Dea in the Dáil, Minister Ryan stated: “I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to the National Roads Programme.”

“Under the Roads Acts 1993-2015 and in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), the operation and maintenance of individual national roads is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned.”

“This is also subject to the Public Spending Code and the necessary statutory approvals,” Minister Ryan concluded.
