GARDAÍ in Limerick have seized a large quantity of fireworks, and an amount of cocaine, in an operation aimed at targeting the supply of illegal fireworks on the run up to the Halloween Bank Holiday weekend.

The Garda swoop, made on Friday as part of Operation Tombola, saw €2,500 of illegal fireworks seized, as well as €700 worth of cocaine, and pepper spray.

According to Gardaí, two men were arrested in relation to the seizure, but both have since been released without charge pending a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The seizure was made at an unconfirmed location in the Limerick area.

In a statement, Gardaí warned, amid the long weekend revelry, that “fireworks can cause great distress to people and pets, and there is always the possibility of outbreaks of fires in properties if fireworks continue to burn after landing”.
