Memorial to be unveiled in Bruff to commemorate Caherguillamore Ambush

SAINT Stephen’s Day at 2pm will see a long overdue memorial being unveiled in Bruff as the Caherguillamore Ambush will be commemorated 103 years to the day after it happened.

Two years of research by the Caherguillamore Memorial Committee led to the discovery of many local names of those who were present on that infamous night.

Six people were shot and others imprisoned for attending a dance at Caherguillamore.

The women who were there have now been recorded for posterity, along with the huge numbers of young local men who were sentenced prison.

The unveiling ceremony will take place outside Bruff GAA pitch at 2pm on December 26.
