Man caught on camera stealing almost €300 worth of cosmetics

Limerick District Court.

A MAN with 141 previous convictions was caught on camera in the William Street Boots outlet in Limerick City stealing cosmetics, a Judge was told.

Joseph Sheehan (34), of 40 Flood Street, Garryowen, pleaded guilty before Limerick District Court to theft of €291.73 worth of goods from the pharmacy on September 20 last.

The court heard that Mr Sheehan, who was recorded on CCTV in the store, was accompanied by a woman who had selected some of the stolen goods.

Mr Sheehan’s solicitor told the court that it was not his client who selected the various cosmetic items, but he agreed that he had picked up one of them and left without paying.

The court was told that Mr Sheehan has 17 previous convictions for burglary, four for robbery, four for theft, five for criminal damage, 11 for misuse of drugs, and four for possession of knives, with the rest being for road traffic offences.

Judge Harney fined Mr Sheehan €250 for the theft and adjourned hearing about other suspended sentences which, the court was told, are triggered by conviction for the offence before her.
