FINE Gael councillor Tom Ruddle has called for proper drainage and resurfacing at the laneway which connects Bishop Street and the Desmond Complex in Newcastle West.

At a recent local area meeting, Cllr Ruddle said that the laneway, at the side of the Courtenay primary school, is used by a large number of people going to the Desmond creche and Desmond Complex.

“It is very slippery and dangerous,” he told the Council executive.

Senior executive engineer John Sheehan explained that the local authority intends to take this area in charge and work to solve these issues in early 2024.
