GARDAÍ have charged one person in connection with an incident in which a man was allegedly observed behaving erratically with a knife in Limerick earlier today (Friday).

Gardaí were contacted for information after a number of postings were shared on social media in which, it was alleged, a man with a “sword” or knife had attacked students near a school.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that Gardaí had “received reports of a man acting erratically on the Corbally Road in Limerick on the morning of Friday 9th February 2024” and had apprehended a man in possession of a small knife.

“With the assistance of the Armed Support Unit, a man in his 20s was arrested in the area shortly after.”

Gardaí confirmed a ”small flick knife was seized” in relation to the incident.
