There was utter heartbreak for Ardscoil Rís in the Final of the Dr Harty Cup (schools’ senior hurling) at Cusack Park in Ennis.

Ahead by a couple of points and with one hand on the cup in stoppage time, Ardscoil were ultimately denied a sixth title by a late winning goal from Nenagh CBS, scrambled home by Andy Hoolan.

It finished 2-16 to 0-21 in favour of the first-time champions from Tipperary.

Fintan Fitzgerald (Mungret St Paul’s) and Marc O’Brien (Cratloe) both struck five points each for Ardscoil, who now meet St Kieran’s College of Kilkenny, Leinster winners, in the semi-final of the All-Ireland Championship.
