Limerick still in search of NFL points

LIMERICK came up a little shy of Westmeath, 0-14 to 1-8, in Sunday’s NFL outing at Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Jimmy Lee’s side have now suffered losses in all four league outings to date and survival in Division Three is in question, unless at least two wins are secured in their closing three fixtures, which are against Clare, Wicklow and Offaly

In the closing stages at the weekend, Limerick grabbed a goal through the richly talented Cathal Downes (Kildimo/Pallaskenry) to slightly test the outcome only for the home outfit to hold out for the precious points on offer.

Limerick defender Paul Maher of Adare suffered an injury close to the finish and was forced to retire, placing his availability for the visit of Clare to Rathkeale next Saturday (6pm) under doubt.

The visitors trailed 0-6 to 0-5 at the interval.
