Limited edition red vinyl print of Live at Record Room 1 will be released on Record Store Day

THIS Friday 19 sees the release of a limited edition repress on translucent red vinyl of Live at Record Room, the acclaimed local acts live compilation released last December by The Commercial Bar in conjunction with Wired 99.9FM and Wav Mastering.

Taking inspiration from the 1990 album The Reindeer Age, the motivation for Live at Record Room was to take a snapshot of a unique time for music in Limerick.

Ray Burke (Wired FM), Rocky O’Shea (The Commercial Bar/Record Room) and Richard Dowling (Wav Mastering) produced the new vinyl album Live At Record Room. Photo: Graeme Dalton (Ravenous Studio).

It features Anna’s Anchor, T.A. Narrative, Hazey Haze, 50 Foot Woman, Laura Duff, SWEETS, The Low Field, Dylan Flynn and The Dead Poets, Small Church, Strange Boy, Paddy Mulcahy, Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies and The Personal Vanity Project. The compilation itself is a celebration of the past, the present, and the boundless creativity that flows through this city.

During the Summer of 2023, The Record Room was host to a series of free live gigs. These curated gigs were recorded and engineered by local producers, capturing a series of mind-blowing performances that will live long in people’s memories. One track was selected from individual sets, which amplifies the vibrant live energy of each of the included artists.

Stuart Clark of Hotpress Magazine wrote, “Recorded live in the Record Room, its 13 tracks underline just how vibrant and diverse the city’s music scene is at the moment.”

Justin McDaid of GoldenPlec.com reviewed the record saying, “The sense of place is palpable throughout this collection, right through to the collective roar of “Up the Parish!” that rises from the record’s run-out groove. ‘Live at Record Room’ is a document of what we already knew, to be fair: Limerick is where it’s at.”

Wired 99.9FM is embracing their co-production of the release with an evening event scheduled for Friday at Mary Immaculate College starting at 6pm. The event will feature talks on vinyl and an exhibition of photos and prints of the artists featured on the record, captured by Graeme Dalton. Attendees will also have the all-important first chance to purchase this limited red vinyl edition, which is open to all.

Additionally, Wired is participating in a larger worldwide college radio event, Vinylthon, taking place this Saturday and Sunday. The emphasis of Vinylthon is on playing vinyl records for broadcast, showcasing the enduring appeal of this analogue format.

Locally this is extended into Record Store Day this Saturday 20, the Christmas Day for independent record shops and collectors. There are hundreds of releases on vinyl specifically for this day.

Wired are taking the Vinylthon experience to Steamboat Music.

The broadcast will go out from 10am -1pm featuring live in- store at Steamboat Records, Dylan Flynn, Paddy Mulcahy, T.A. Narrative with more to be added.
