GARDAÍ in Limerick are investigating after an unsuspecting woman had her handbag snatched from her car in broad daylight in the city centre last week.

On Friday last week (April 26) at around 7.45pm in the evening, Gardaí have reported, a woman was sitting in her white Mazda 3 car at Mount Kenneth Place, just off Henry Street in Limerick City.

Garda John Finnerty, of Henry Street Garda Station, explained that the opportunistic thief opened the woman’s passenger door, snatched her handbag out of the passenger seat, and ran off with it.

The Henry Street Garda said the thief ran up the hill away from the terrified driver, in the direction of Henry Street, where he was rugby tackled to the ground by a member of the public who witnessed the encounter.

The thief left empty handed, Garda Finnerty said, with the handbag eventually returned to the terrified woman.
