ARRANGEMENTS are being made to bring home a Limerick man who died in a tragic road crash in Canada.

38-year-old John Lyne died in Calgary, Canada, on April 30, when he was involved in a head-on road traffic collision while on his way to work.

The only occupant of the car at the time, Mr Lyne’s car collided with another car, an occupant of which, a 72-year-old woman, also lost her life.

The woman’s husband, who was also in the vehicle at the time, survived the collision.

John, or Johnny as he was known to his friends, was a tradesman and had been living in Canada for the past 10 years, having previously lived in London and Australia.

Mr Lyne is survived by his parents Pat and Theresa, his sister Claire, and his brother-in-law Ken. He will leave an “irreplaceable” gap in the lives of his loved ones, his family told the Limerick Post.

Despite living away from Limerick for a number of years, John never lost touch with home, returning every year to see family and friends.

The late Limerick man was a lifelong supporter of Fairview FC, having played for the club from a young age up to junior level, where he won two FAI medals with them.

As a mark of respect, Fairview FC are flying the flag at half mast.

John’s family told the Limerick Post that they wish to acknowledge his friends from Woodlawn and Limerick, saying they are grateful for how much his friends here at home loved him.

They also wished to pay tribute to John’s work colleagues in PCL Construction in Canada who are deeply affected by his passing.

The family are working with the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust to help bring John home, with funeral details to be announced later.
