THE Ruby Anniversary of Limerick’s last All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship success will be celebrated at Na Piarsaigh on this (Sunday) evening.
It’s all of 40 years since that Phil Bennis of Patrickswell managed selection won in Munster, then defeated Down in the All-Ireland semi-final and, following a replay, captured the Irish Press Cup for the first time since 1958 with Final victory over Kilkenny.
The year, 1984, also marked the Centenary of the GAA, thus the provincial and nationals Finals were held in Thurles (Semple Stadium), the association’s birth place.
