SHANNON Airport welcomed news this past week that Delta Airlines is to expand seat capacity on its new daily flight route to New York’s JKF International Airport.

The US airline announced that the route will see the planned Boeing 757-200 airplane replaced with the deployment of the much larger Boeing 767-300 aircraft for the Shannon to New York route, which will provide over 3,600 seats throughout the summer.

Shannon Airport said that the new route has the overall potential to generate up to 46,000 passengers through the airport.

Shannon was the first Irish airport to carry Delta flights back in 1986.

The new Delta Airlines daily Shannon to New York JFK route saw its maiden flight take up this past weekend on Saturday May 25.
