Shannon engineering company celebrating 50 years in business

A SHANNON-based company has recently celebrated a big milestone, marking their 50th anniversary.

Smithstown Light Engineering is celebrating 50 years since it was founded by Brian King in 1974, growing to employ 240 staff across its offices in Shannon and Rzeszów, Poland.

The Shannon-based company manufactures medical and orthopaedic devices for companies worldwide, using cutting-edge technologies and continuous improvement to produce medical device components.

In 2010, the company opened a second manufacturing facility in Shannon, adding 10,000 square feet, then adding a further 30,000 sq/ft to the second facility in 2019.

In 2020, the company opened its third manufacturing facility in Rzeszów, while in 2021, the company introduced the Smithstown Additive, where the entire additive manufacturing technology process comes under one roof.

At its 50th anniversary celebrations in the Raddison Hotel, founder and chairman of Smithstown Light Engineering, Brian King, said that the company’s growth over the past 50 years is a testament to the work by the company’s employees down the years.

“Our journey from a small parts production company to a global leader in advanced manufacturing for the MedTech sector is testament to our dedicated team, our commitment to quality and innovation, and the support of our clients and the local community,” Mr King said.

Gerard Henn, CEO of Smithstown, said that there is further growth on the horizon for the company.

“With further growth on the horizon, we look forward to continuing our legacy of excellence and innovation in the years to come, contributing to the local economy and the global MedTech industry,” Mr Henn said.
