ONE LIMERICK-based community company has taken the decision to log out of its X (formerly Twitter) account for the final time due to “an alarming increase in hate speech, abusive commentary, and the spread of misinformation”.
PAUL Partnership made what is deemed the “difficult” decision this past week, saying that recent developments on X “made it clear that the platform no longer aligns with our core values”.
“Over the past 12 months, we have observed an alarming increase in hate speech, abusive commentary, and the spread of misinformation, particularly targeting vulnerable groups including refugees and asylum seekers,” a statement posted on the company’s X account stated.
PAUL Partnership is a multi-sectoral company that promotes social inclusion across Limerick, made up of representatives of communities, state agencies, social partners, voluntary groups, and elected representatives.
“We wish to lead by example in creating a respectful and welcoming environment both in person and online,” the statement continued.
The company said that it “will continue our mission to support social inclusion for all in Limerick City through our other social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Threads”.
PAUL Partnership works with local communities and groups who have benefited least from economic and social development and aim to improve the quality of life of people living in Limerick City.
Originally set up in 1989 as People Action Against Unemployment Ltd, later abbreviated to PAUL Partnership, its original aim was to address the high levels of long term unemployment in Limerick City.
