GARDAƍ in Limerick were out in force as part of a National Day of Action last Wednesday (January 15) to crack down on driving while holding a mobile phone and distracted driving.

During the operation, GardaĆ­ stopped the driver of a black Ford SUV who was found to be holding a mobile phone while driving through Limerick City.

According to GardaĆ­, ā€œonce stopped, a roadside drug test was performed (on the driver), which indicated a positive result for cannabisā€.

The driver was arrested and a blood sample was taken, along with the issue of penalty points and a fine.

Pending the results of the blood sample, a court attendance may also occur.
