LIMERICK composer Paddy Mulcahy is set to release his latest EP, The Hard Core of Beauty, on Friday April 4. Inspired by Brutalist architecture, the four-track collection explores the minimalistic and stark elements of the movement through contrasting musical textures.
Mulcahy employs his signature blend of analog synthesizers, percussion, acoustic guitar, and piano to create a soundscape that juxtaposes harsh and delicate tones.
The EP’s title comes from the film The Brutalist.
“I wanted to take as much time necessary to reflect on where they take their inspiration from and ,of course, get the mixes and arrangements right. It was not until I saw the film “The Brutalist” (from where the EP takes its title), that I knew the EP was finished.”
The artwork, captured by Mulcahy in Berlin in November 2024, features an example of Brutalist architecture, reinforcing the EP’s aesthetic.
