Mogwai Set to ignite A Bad Fire Live at the Big Top this Summer

Mogwai play Live at the Big Top, Limerick Milk Market on Friday July 25.

Scottish post-rock titans Mogwai are set to bring their cinematic soundscapes to Limerick Milk Market, Live at the Big Top on Friday July 25. This long-awaited debut performance in the city follows their standout set at the inaugural In The Meadows festival last summer, promising to be one of the highlights of the 2025 live music calendar.

Formed in Glasgow in 1995, Mogwai have captivated audiences for nearly three decades with their evocative, genre-defying compositions.

The band—comprising Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesiser, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar), and Martin Bulloch (drums)—has built an enduring reputation for crafting expansive, instrumental-driven music that oscillates between delicate beauty and thunderous intensity.

Their latest album, The Bad Fire, released in January, showcases a refined yet dynamic evolution of their signature sound.

Produced by John Congleton, the record blends electronic elements with their trademark post-rock crescendos, delivering tracks that range from the hauntingly introspective God Gets You Back to the soaring energy of Hi Chaos.

Mogwai’s previous album, As The Love Continues (2021), was a critical and commercial triumph, securing a Mercury Prize nomination, winning Scottish Album of the Year, and topping the UK Album Charts.

Beyond their studio albums, the band has made a mark in film and television, composing scores for Amazon Prime and Apple TV+ productions.

Their impact was further celebrated in Mogwai: If The Stars Had A Sound, a documentary directed by longtime collaborator Antony Crook, which premiered at SXSW in 2024 and continues to screen at film festivals worldwide.

With a reputation for delivering electrifying live performances, Mogwai’s Limerick show promises an immersive experience, combining their latest material with fan-favourite classics.

Cloth are special guests

Acclaimed Glasgow duo Cloth will join post-rock legends Mogwai when they perform in Limerick on Friday 25 July.

Known for their beautifully textured, atmospheric sound, Cloth have been steadily gaining recognition as one of Scotland’s most exciting emerging acts. Led by twin siblings Rachael and Paul Swinton, the band’s signature blend of intricate guitar work, subtle electronics and haunting vocals has earned critical praise and a growing fanbase. Their debut self-titled album was shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year, while their follow-up, Secret Measure, further cemented their reputation for understated brilliance.

Joining Mogwai for this special show is a natural fit. Both acts share Glasgow roots and a talent for crafting expansive, emotive soundscapes—though where Mogwai go loud, Cloth captivate with restraint and precision.
