Celebration mass to honour efforts of Limerick city lady

A CELEBRATION and Remembrance Mass will take place in the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Newport, County Tipperary, this Saturday at 7.30pm followed by a blessing of a memorial plaque to acknowledge the efforts of a Limerick city lady, Sr Mary Anne Ignatius O’Brien, along with Canon James Howard and Fr Edmond O’Kane.

The celebration is to mark their work in founding the Sisters of Mercy Newport parish on June 21, 1901.

This is based on a project carried out and researched by John Phayer.

Organisers of the Mass have said a special word of thanks to sponsors, Mulcair Credit Union, Newport Memorials for designing and installing the plaque, and Delany-Minihan Funeral Undertakers for providing the wreaths.
