A FANTASTIC flavour is coming to the Treaty City with theย launch of Flavours of Limerick, a brand-new food festival celebrating Limerickโs vibrant culinary culture.
Taking place across various locations in Limerick in September, the four-day festival will feature an exciting programme of tastings, live demos, family activities, and immersive food experiences – all designed to showcase the people, produce, and places that make Limerick a food destination on the rise.
The festival will be delivered by Limerick City and County Council and is supported by the Mayor of Limerickโs Mayoral Fund.
Developing an annual food festival to celebrate and promote local produce is a goal within the broader mayoral programme.
There will be four pillar events – a ‘mystery dinner’, a street feast, a sing-a-long picnic and Sunday at the Milk Market’s live demo hub with top chefs including Trisha Lewis and Tom Flavin.
Spreading the feast across the city, there will be other events including traditional tea ceremonies, tasting trails through local cafรฉs, delis, and restaurants, guided whiskey tastings in historic venues, and a curated wine and cheese experience.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran said: โGrowing up on a farm, I was always conscious of Limerick having such a rich tradition in food, across both the city and county.”
“I felt strongly about allocating some of the mayoral fund to begin putting a spotlight on the quality of our food and to allow our food producers to achieve their full potential.
“I was delighted to base the entire menu of the Mayorโs Charity Dinner this year on Limerick food. Whether itโs menus like these at civic events or festivals like Flavours of Limerick, we want to continue to enhance Limerickโs visibility as a food destination.โ
Prรญomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council, Fianne Fรกil councillor Catherine Slattery, commented that “Flavours of Limerick is a tantalising prospect set to bring a whole new energy to our city this September”.
“Iโm looking forward to a celebration of great food, but also a celebration of the incredible local producers, chefs, and communities.”
