LAST year alone, 1,145 blood donations were taken at the Caherdavin blood donation clinic.

Each unit of donated blood has the power to save or significantly improve the lives of up to three people.

Up to 3,435 patients were potentially helped by Caherdavin clinic blood donations last year, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service said.

Blood is a critical resource for cancer patients, those undergoing surgery, accident victims, and mothers who experience complications during childbirth.
