MORE than 70 Limerick volunteers removed 455 kilograms of marine litter during this year’s Big Beach Clean.
Clean-ups took place across the county including 10 volunteers from Bruff Tidy Towns on Saturday September 20 and more than 20 volunteers from Ballyhahill Development Association, who took on a river cleanup in the area.
Nearly 11,000 volunteers lightened the load of marine litter during the Big Beach Clean weekend with over 520 clean-ups organised by Clean Coasts Groups and individuals nationwide.
It’s estimated that 60 tonnes of marine litter was removed from Ireland’s coastline over the course of the few days.
