MUNGRET ST PAUL’S stunned holders Adare, 0-17 to 1-13, to advance to only a second ever Limerick Senior Football final in Askeaton at the weekend.

In a lively semi-final, the teams were tied seven times across the hour.

Hero of the occasion was full-forward Shane Barry (0-4) who whacked over the winning score in injury time.

There were many stars in the starting XV for Mungret, but key were the liveliness of several bench members when introduced, such as captain John Hutton, Diarmuid Hynes, Tom Lloyd and Conor Ó Longaigh.

Next Sunday’s outing with Newcastle West will be only a second ever final appearance for St Paul’s, losing finalists of 2001 (to Dromcollogher Broadford).

The Magpies came through their semi-final after extra time against Fr Casey’s, 2-16 to 0-14, at Mick Neville Park.

In normal time, NCW survived only through a last-gasp equaliser from Eoin Hurley.

Over the next 20 minutes, the seven-time champions were dominant, with Hurley and Emmet Rigter among their more prominent individuals.
