NINETEEN delighted new residents have taken the first step out of the misery and stress of homelessness in Limerick City.

Mid West Simon Community last week announced that 19 individuals are moving into 10 newly developed apartments in Limerick City as part of the organisationโ€™s Clann Nua model of housing.

All residents are being housed directly from emergency accommodation services in Limerick, marking a significant step forward in addressing homelessness.

The Clann Nua model focuses on creating supportive, community-based housing, where tenants are encouraged to rebuild their lives through stability, connection, and tailored support services.

Mayor of Limerick John Moran said that โ€œwhile this is a deeply positive step forward for the 19 individuals who now have a place to call home, we must acknowledge the broader reality. The scale of the housing crisis in Ireland, and here in Limerick, is staggering, and the human cost is profound.”

“That said, every additional housing unit is welcome … These 10 homes represent hope, and they remind us of what is possible when local authorities, housing charities, and communities work together.โ€

Niall Garvey, CEO of Mid West Simon Community, added: โ€œThe negative effects of living long term in emergency accommodation are well researched and documented. Therefore, these apartments are a wonderful addition to our services – we can now offer this supported transition for our clients.โ€
