GARDAƍ are warning people not click into any unfamiliar links on their phones after a Limerick man had money taken from his account in recent weeks.

Sergeant Michael Gallagher, Community Policing at Mayorstone Garda Station in Limerick City, issued the warning after a man reported being scammed when he clinked on a link sent to him by a woman who claimed to be from his mobile phone company.

Garda advice on avoiding scams is “never click a link sent during an unsolicited call.

Legitimate companies will never ask you to download apps, click links or share banking details. If in doubt, hang up and call the company back using an official number.”
