BELLTABLE will host three nights of acclaimed Irish performer Pat Kinevane’s internationally celebrated solo works this month, showcasing his distinctive blend of compassion, dark humour and theatrical innovation.
The trilogy of Forgotten, Underneath and Silent, produced by Fishamble Theatre Company and directed by Jim Culleton, runs from 12 to 14 February. The productions have earned critical acclaim from Edinburgh to Broadway to Adelaide, collecting major awards including an Olivier Award.
Forgotten (12 February) blends Kabuki dance with Irish storytelling to portray four elderly residents of retirement homes across Ireland. The production asks “has no one a skitter o’ dignity left?” as Kinevane inhabits these often-overlooked voices. The Irish Times described it as “captivating, moving, and – yes – even unforgettable”, whilst The New Yorker praised the “raw, over-the-top, compassionate performance”.
Underneath (13 February) explores beauty, ugliness and lives lived in secret through the story of a person crushed by words and pointing. The production won the Adelaide Fringe Best Theatre Award, a Scotsman Fringe First, and featured on Forbes’ Best Theater on Broadway and Beyond list. Examiner.com awarded it five stars, calling it “devastatingly brilliant”.
Silent (14 February) follows homeless McGoldrig, who has lost everything including his mind, as he escapes into the romantic world of Rudolph Valentino. The production won the Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre Olivier Award in 2016, plus a Helen Hayes Award and multiple festival prizes.
