ROAD safety was high on Fine Gael councillor Liam Galvin’s agenda as he made the call for material on fencing at Kilconlea, Abbeyfeale, to be replaced as it keeps blowing down.

Speaking at the March meeting of the Newcastle West District, Cllr Galvin said that car lights were reflecting off the black fencing material, dazzling motorists, and was now “an accident waiting to happen”.

Several people, he told the Council executive, had brought this issue to his attention. However, the issue, he claimed, is currently “falling on deaf ears”.

“We need to get serious about road safety,” he insisted. Galvin’s motion was seconded by Cllr Francis Foley (FF).

The Council said the material would be replaced with a more suitable one.
