CAROLINE Currid’s return to the fold as a sports psychologist with Limerick has been widely welcomed.
Prior to her initial arrival, Shannonside, she worked successfully with Tyrone (2008), Tipperary (2010) and Dublin (2011).
With Limerick, the Sligo native was pivotal to the recent All-Ireland triumphs but stepped away a couple of years ago to pursue other avenues, including a role with the Ireland rugby team.
“It’s definitely a big positive as well having Caroline Currid back,” declared outgoing Limerick captain Declan Hannon in an interview with balls.ie.
“I just think that she brings a real sense of calm and trust when she’s there. Her record speaks for itself – with all teams. I suppose it’s highlighted more with Limerick. Anytime she’s been there, Limerick have won, and the years she wasn’t there, we didn’t win. It’s a fair old record to have! When I saw that she was back, I was delighted.”
After the breakthrough All-Ireland win of 2018, in his acceptance speech, Hannon declared: “She has just been phenomenal with us for the last two years. She has always been there for us, always there to keep us up and pick us up when we are down. She’s after inheriting 36 new babies!”
In the wake of the dramatic 2025 Munster ‘Penalty’ Final loss to Cork, Limerick soon exited at the hands of Dublin.
In an interview with RTÉ’s Game On, Limerick’s Niall Moran commented: “It’s the nature of Caroline, you probably are emotionally disengaged because everyone in there, you are so invested emotionally and sometimes you build things up to be bigger than what they are.
“If you have somebody who’s emotionally disengaged, who has the ear of people, you see things for what they are, the small things.
“Trust me, I’m not putting it down that if Limerick had Caroline Currid they would have won that match, but I just felt that emotionally, it was a very tricky game.”
