
STUDENTS from across Limerick and Clare showcased innovative climate action projects at the second annual Make A Switch competition, hosted at Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s College of FET, Green Innovation Campus, Roxboro, Limerick.
The competition encourages primary and post-primary students to develop practical, creative responses to climate change and sustainable living. This year marked a major milestone with the event moving to the Nearly-Zero Energy Building Green Innovation Campus, part of Ireland’s network of NZEB Centres of Excellence supporting training in sustainable construction, energy efficiency and green technologies.
Schools taking part included Castletroy College, St John Bosco Community College, Mungret Community College, Kilkee Community College, Desmond College, Coláiste Iósaef (Kilmallock), Coláiste na Trócaire (Rathkeale), Fedamore Community National School, and Limerick Community Special School.
The Top Post-Primary School Award went to Desmond College for 3D Whiteboard Cleaner, winning a perpetual trophy, framed certificate, €1,000 for school climate action measures, and a €500 Outdoor Education and Training Centre voucher. The Top Community National/Special School Award went to Fedamore Community National School for Re-Action, also receiving a perpetual trophy, certificate, €1,000 funding, and an Outdoor Education and Training Centre voucher.
Other winners included Castletroy College for Most Engaging Exhibit, Mungret Community College for Creativity Award, Limerick Community Special School for a Special Commendation, and Zeina Mohammed of Coláiste Iósaef for Outstanding Student Contribution.
Judges praised the high standard of entries, while LCETB Chief Executive Bernadette Cullen commended students for their leadership and commitment to climate action.
