
UL Bohemian enjoyed a memorable weekend as the club captured the Women’s AIL title and earned promotion to Division 2A in the Men’s League.
A try by Caitriona Finn in the last play of the game saw Bohs defeat Blackrock College 32-29 in the final at the Aviva Stadium and make it three successive titles in a row.
The Limerick side trailed 16-8 at half time with a try from Ciara O’Dwyer and a penalty by Kate Flannery.
A second try by O’Dwyer, converted by Flannery, closed the gap to a point early in the second half.
Blackrock hit back with a penalty and a try to lead 24-15.
Éabha Nic Dhonnacha scored Bohs’ third try, and a five-pointer by player of the match Alana McInerney, converted by Flannery, had the defending champions ahead.
Blackrock responded with a try two minutes from time to lead 29-27.
Then the Bohs never say die attitude paid off with Finn’s match-winning score.
Meanwhile, on the Men’s front, UL Bohemian won promotion to Division 2A next season after their 58-33 home win over Sligo.
Killian Dineen and Darren Farrer scored two tries each for the winners, with Darragh O’Gorman, OisÃn Fagan, Greg Fitzgerald and Liam O’Shanahan getting one each.
Cian Casey kicked six conversions and two penalties.
The Division 2A Promotion/Relegation play-off between UCC and Shannon was abandoned due to an injury, with the Students leading 31-12 at the time, and the IRFU will now have to decide what happens.
