LIMERICK will be the toast of Cannes after the local film sector received major international recognition at the 2026 Global Production Awards, taking place in the French coastal town on Sunday (May 17).

Two nominations were received on Shannonside for the screen industry awards, a major international recognition for the local film sector.

Founder of Fresh Film, Jayne Foley, was shortlisted for the Impact Leadership Award at the 2026 Global Production Awards, in recognition of three decades of work building a national platform for young filmmakers and advocating for young people in the film industry.

Film in Limerick, the regional film office for Limerick and the Mid West region, was also recognised through its Screenability initiative, which supports adults with complex learning needs to build careers in the film and television industry.

The two nominations rank among just three Irish nominees nationwide shortlisted for this year’s awards.

Reacting to her nomination, Fresh Film founder Jayne Foley said: “Given the calibre of this year’s shortlist, this nomination is a huge honour. It reflects 30 years of building Fresh Film and backing young filmmakers in Ireland, and to be recognised at this level really matters.”

Film in Limerick regional manager Paul C Ryan added: “We are so thrilled that our Screenability initiative has received this recognition at the Global Production Awards. Fantastic work is being done with our partners including Avista and the National Talent Academies to broaden access opportunities to the screen industries for all and to ensure that there is a place for all abilities both behind and in front of the camera.”
