A Control Programme of Giant Hogweed in the Loobag and Maigue Catchments was also granted €15,000 in funding to tackle invasive species on these rivers.

A specialised breeding bird survey of important sites in County Limerick will also take place, after receiving €12,495 in funding.

Minister of State at the Department of Justice and TD for Limerick County Niall Collins welcomed the announcement, saying: “This €100,000 investment in nine local nature projects in Limerick will have huge impacts for our local habitats and wildlife. I look forward to the roll out of these initiatives across Limerick as they will bring communities together to enhance nature in their local area.”

“There is huge passion, expertise and ambition in Limerick to act for nature and biodiversity, and it is positive to see this funding from Government in support of this.”

The Local Biodiversity Action Fund was originally established in 2018 to assist local authorities in implementing biodiversity actions.
