SHANNON Airport is gearing up to play ball welcoming fans heading for the world cup this week.

While Ireland won’t feature on the pitch, Shannon is set to be a gateway for travelling supporters, particularly from Scotland, England, and France, thanks to its direct flights to two host cities – Boston and New York/New Jersey.

Scotland will play two of its group stage matches at Boston Stadium, while England and France are scheduled to play group games in both Boston and New York/New Jersey Stadiums, making Shannon Airport a convenient departure point for fans heading stateside.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Niall Kearns, airport director, said: “The FIFA World Cup is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, and we’re delighted to be part of the journey for so many fans travelling to the United States. We’ve already had the pleasure of welcoming supporters transiting through Shannon on their way to the tournament, and it’s fantastic to see the excitement building. With US Preclearance and strong connectivity, we’re making it easier for fans to get there and start enjoying the experience.”
