Relatives and friends of Mr Faulkner, one of 16 siblings, shared messages upon hearing of his passing and paid tributes to him.

“You’re back with your sister Scarlett, we will all love and miss ye forever,” stated one of many tributes shared online.

“I’m lost for words, seen this boy carrying his poor sister’s coffin at her funeral and now he’s gone to heaven, I’ve never seen sadder in my life,” another mourner wrote.

“God help all the poor family,” another post wrote.

“I have no words, utterly heartbroken for the entire family, may he be reunited with his beautiful sister,” another mourner wrote. “Sending the family prayers and strength to get through this unimaginable loss.”

A Garda spokeswoman said that a post mortem will take place “in due course”.

Scarlett Faulkner passed away last Monday, three weeks after she was allegedly assaulted at a roadside outside Birdhill village, County Tipperary. A 16-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman are before the courts charged in connection with the alleged attack on March 21.
