LIMERICK GAA has announced the establishment of four new Regional Development Units, covering the City, East, West and South of the county.
This landmark initiative represents a progressive and ambitious step in the implementation of its strategic plan.
“The creation of these units reflects a clear commitment to strengthening structures at local level and increasing participation in Gaelic Games across the entire county,” commented Ger Corkery, Limerick Central Council delegate.
“The primary focus of the units will be to support, sustain, and grow clubs within their areas. The units will work hand in hand with clubs and existing county committees, providing practical support, guidance and renewed energy to help clubs meet evolving challenges and seize new opportunities.”
Inclusivity will be central to the initiative.
“Limerick is a county rich in diversity and we have an important role in ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued,” noted Corkery. “The units will support clubs in reaching out to marginalised communities and new citizens, breaking down barriers and fostering a genuine sense of belonging. Increasing participation is not just about numbers on the field – it is about building stronger, more connected and inclusive communities.”
Expressions of interest from individuals who wish to play a part in shaping the future of the association in Limerick are being sought.
Corkery said: “This is a unique opportunity for those with passion, experience, energy and commitment to contribute in a meaningful way. The success of these new units will depend on the dedication and creativity of volunteers who step forward to lead and support this exciting next chapter. Together, we can continue to strengthen our clubs, increase participation and ensure that Limerick GAA remains vibrant and sustainable for generations to come.”
